Solenas Peppy Chic “Lena” is a 21 years young AQHA registered mare standing 15.3 hands with big bone, a solid build, and true foundation type. Before any concerns about age , Lena absolutely loves having a job and thrives on her people. She is one of the nicest mares I’ve had in the barn and one I’ve confidently put family members and students on without hesitation. She does not act or look her age and still has plenty to offer for someone wanting a safe, enjoyable partner and the ability to teach someone so much. She has been owned by the same client for the past 10 years, who purchased her from the owner/ trainer that started her, so her history and care are well known. Lena has been well maintained her entire life, is an easy keeper, and currently requires no special maintenance. She is pigeon-toed, and her long time farrier has shod her with Avanti steel shoes featuring a small ridge for improved breakover and balance.
Lena is broke the way you hope they all would be! Extremely sweet with a disposition that’s hard to find. She was shown extensively in green reining and has easy turnarounds, spins, sliding stops, side passes, lead changes, and smooth departures into the lope. She is forward-moving yet very controllable, stops easily, and is exceptionally smooth to ride. She has also been used for beginner IEA riders in both in hand and under saddle classes, earning many ribbons. Lena trail rides extremely well, sure footed, willing to go through obstacles, enjoys water, and is not a spooky type. She has logged thousands of trail miles in Arizona and Montana, rides out alone quietly, does not get barn sour, and will walk home on a loose rein. Lena excels at ranch riding maneuvers and trail obstacles and has been ridden through towns and parades with an experienced rider. She hauls easily, loads well, stands for tacking, bathing, clipping, and everyday handling. She can be ridden English, Western, or bareback and handles each comfortably. She will pony other horses and even minis without issue. She is the kind of mare that can sit for periods and still be reliable when you saddle up, though she truly prefers regular activity and attention. While she may enjoy a good gallop now and then, she has not been used for speed events and is better suited for pleasure riding, trails, ranch riding, or low-key fun shows rather than competitive speed work. However, could easily go to a gymkhana and 4-H for someone looking for fun not being competitive. In the herd, Lena is an alpha mare but never aggressive with people. She keeps to herself, doesn’t start trouble, but also won’t be pushed around. I have seen her stalled by random horses while here and has not caused one problem. She has excellent ground manners and is genuinely kind with humans. She even reaches for the bridle herself when it’s time to go to work. Her owner is only selling because life circumstances have changed, and Lena deserves more activity than she is currently getting. We will be selective in finding her the right home, as she is a very special mare who thrives when she has a purpose and people to connect with. Lena is current on feet, teeth, vaccinations, and deworming.
