McCoy is a stunning 6-year-old bay roan gelding standing 15.2 hands. His owners purchased him a little over a year ago from a ranch in Canada while looking for a dressage prospect for their teenage daughter. They wanted the beautiful movement of a dressage horse, but also something with more exposure than just arena life. Prior to coming to them, McCoy had been ridden in both indoor and outdoor arenas, lightly tracked cattle, and trail ridden.
Through no fault of his own, his family has decided to step away from horses and asked me to assist with finding him the right next home.
First impressions of McCoy are that he’s a very eye-catching, well-mannered gelding. He has a typical young gelding personality and took a couple of days to fully settle in, but overall adjusted well. During his evaluation, I noticed some inconsistencies in his movement. With his owner’s approval, we had a veterinarian evaluate him to get clear answers.
On 1/22, McCoy was examined and X-rays were taken, findings showed bilateral front navicular changes along with thin soles. Based on the vet’s recommendations, his shoeing has been adjusted, and we are optimistic this will help improve his comfort. His owners were unaware of this prior but remain committed to doing what’s best for McCoy and finding him a suitable home.
Aside from this, McCoy is overall well behaved and genuinely enjoys people. He stands quietly tied, for grooming, farrier work, and tacking. He can be ridden English or Western — having spent time both on a ranch and in a dressage program over the past year. He is a beautiful mover with smooth transitions, works well off leg, gives to the bit, and side-passes nicely.
McCoy still has a lot to offer. He is young, willing, and does best with a confident rider, as he can have occasional “baby brain” moments, but nothing horrible. He will require correct, consistent shoeing going forward. He was most recently shod on 1/27 following direct veterinary recommendations; flat PLR with wedge frog support pad
We are happy to share his X-rays with serious, interested parties. English riding videos were taken toward the end of last year, Western videos were taken on 1/20, and lunging videos were taken 1/28 , less than 24hrs with his new shoeing. He has currently not been given any additional medication or treatment plan. McCoy is current on hoof care, teeth, and shots. Open to offers for the right home.
