Meet Jets Little Ronaway aka Spade is a 9 year old AQHA gelding standing 15.2 hands. His papers call him brown, but when stalled he stays pretty darn black! Spade is a true all-around gelding that just about everyone needs in their barn. He’s sweet, respectful, enjoys attention, and is an absolute pleasure to have around. On the ground, Spade has great manners. He stands quietly tied, loves his baths, loads well, lunges, and is good for the farrier. He’s an easy guy to handle and genuinely enjoys being around people. Under saddle, this guy can do a little bit of everything! Spade rides both Western and English and is broke like one should be. In the arena, he’s smooth, has easy transitions, a true one-hand neck rein, and rides direct rein too. He moves off your leg, is soft in the mouth, and is simply enjoyable to ride. He has previously done cross-country jumping and seems to enjoy it. He sets himself up nicely for a jump and approaches it with confidence. He’s also patterned on barrels and poles, happy to take things slow or stride out when asked. If someone wanted to consistently compete for speed, I would recommend a mild tune-up to get everything sharpened back up, but very mild. Out on the trails, Spade is quiet and easygoing. He’s aware of his surroundings and will look around, but isn’t one to make a big deal out of things. If something really catches his attention, he may raise his head to take a better look. Honestly, that’s about the only thing I can pick apart about him! With his size, that can feel a little intimidating to some riders, but he hasn’t offered anything beyond looking. Spade has also been used to sort cattle, give lessons, and has been willing to try just about anything asked of him. He can be ridden in a variety of bits, bareback, or double.
Spade has gone through our normal evaluation process, but we’ve actually put even more time into him than usual. We’ve hauled him to six different arenas, exposed him to different riders and environments, and given him plenty of opportunities to show us who he really is. One of those outings was to an English barn, where a lady who had never met him before hopped on and had nothing but wonderful things to say about him. We also took Spade on a three-day camping and trail riding trip, and he was a trooper! He handled the riding, tied on a highline, got along with the other horses, and ate and drank well throughout the trip. Most recently, our daughter hauled him to a gymkhana. He was well-behaved, had no gate issues, and was perfectly content staying slow and collected when asked. Between the arena work, jumping, barrels, poles, cattle, lessons, trails, camping, and hauling, Spade has shown us just how versatile and willing he really is. He’s the kind you can enjoy doing a variety of things with rather than being limited to one discipline. He’s got a great mind, plenty of experience, and has been an absolute gem to have around.
We’ve genuinely enjoyed Spade, and I believe he’ll be a wonderful addition to someone’s barn. Whether you’re looking for a fun all-around partner, a horse to enjoy on the trails, or one to take in several different directions, he’s definitely worth a look!
Spade is current on hoof care, teeth, shots, and deworming.
